The SMAC exists for the purpose of flavour discovery and palate development. Meetings are held once a month in Brisbane, Australia where members get together and drink delicious whisky without ever having to fork out too much. Basically we share the cost of the bottle(s) and then share our thoughts. Non-meeting tasting notes will be added too, so get in touch if you would like to contribute.

Tastings 13/05/12.

NEAT

Tristan
Nose: Young Golden Syrup and Raw Sugar Cane mixed with a knob of Butter.
1st: Very strong and powerful, with a strong burn down the throat.
2nd: The Island Salts come through after the 1st palate dies down a little, and a hint of Sweet Paprika soon follows
3rd: The Salt maintains through to the 3rd, with solid undertones of Molasses.
Gavin
Nose: Smokey, Woody (Oak), Molasses, Marzipan
1st: Golden Syrup, Tangy, Tart (Lemons)
Finish: Peaty, Golden Syrup, Salt, Sweet Paprika

WITH A SPLASH OF WATER

Tristan
Nose: Still quite Sweet/Syrupy, but also has a hint of Nutmeg.
1st: The addition of just a few drops of water really cuts the burn and smooths it out.
2nd: Although the Salt is still there, it is more Smokey and Sweeter, but also with an Oaky current.
3rd: Again the Salts are present, but with a much Smokier flavour to it.
Overall: It is almost like having a driftwood bonfire on the beach. The 1st palate is when the wind changes and blows a gust of heat and smoke in your face, but then it turns again and you are left with the smoke and salt.
Gavin
Nose: Smokey, Peaty, Golden Syrup, Nutmeg
1st: Seaweed, Salt, Iodine, Smokey, Sweeter Golden Syrup
Finish: Salt, Pepper, Nutmeg, Almond, Syrup, Peaty
