The SMAC exists for the purpose of flavour discovery and palate development. Meetings are held once a month in Brisbane, Australia where members get together and drink delicious whisky without ever having to fork out too much. Basically we share the cost of the bottle(s) and then share our thoughts. Non-meeting tasting notes will be added too, so get in touch if you would like to contribute.
Lark, up to 8 years
Tasmanian Single Malt, bottled 2011, aged in port barrels. 43% alcohol. Lark, Single Malt Whisky
Ross' Notes, Neat
Nose: citrus, caramel, smoke and light peat
1st: smooth with bite, light
2nd: brings on the caramel and peat
3rd: reiteration of the citrus and smoke
Overall: very smooth and complex; undemanding; most enjoyable.
With dash of water:
removes much of the bite
brings out the caramel in the nose and introduces floral notes
becomes very easy to drink
Tristan's Notes, Neat
Nose: Warm, clean, splash of orange and cinnamon, and a hint of chocolate
1st: powerful with bold spices, especially pepper and quite warming
2nd: rising peats, transitionary between 1st and 3rd palates
3rd: "rolling", faint orange, and a hint of "burnt sienna"
Overall: Powerfull hit with a nice rolling finsh. It would be wonderful as a winter scotch fut to it's warmth throughout.
with a few drops of water:
Nose: Fruity and vanilla are the main caharacteristics, with some florals and a warm smoothness
1st: much smoother than neat, with added caramels
2nd: much more of it's own phase with water, including cinnamon and chocolate
3rd: oranges and a peak of pepper, still quite chocolatey but with subtle caramels interwoven with it.
Overall: still a warming winter whiskey with the water, with alot more fruits, caramels and general sweetness
