The SMAC exists for the purpose of flavour discovery and palate development. Meetings are held once a month in Brisbane, Australia where members get together and drink delicious whisky without ever having to fork out too much. Basically we share the cost of the bottle(s) and then share our thoughts. Non-meeting tasting notes will be added too, so get in touch if you would like to contribute.

Session #6

RSVP by Monday 1 October. Please don't just turn up.
Price TBC
BYO Crystal glass if you have.

Tristan will be taking us through the classic Glenmorangie and allowing us to compare it to one of Glenmorangie's different barrel whiskies. They age one in port barrels, one in oloroso barrels, and one in sauternes barrels. Which will he choose? I can't wait to find out. Whichever way this goes it will be a great way to see the direct affect of the barrel.

Session #5

Tuesday 4 September - 7:15pm. Ashgrove.
RSVP by Monday 3 September. Please don't just turn up.
Drivers (and those taking it easy): $20 includes 4x 15-20mL serves plus palate cleansers.
Drinkers: $35 includes above plus a couple more drams after the official tastings.
BYO Crystal glass if you have.

This month we are looking at PEAT MONSTERS. Ardbeg Supernova has 100ppm of peatiness, and the Bruichladdich Octomore 2_140 weighs in at 140ppm. These are some of the peatiest whiskies in the world, shadowed only by the newer releases of Octomore that go up 167ppm. This is bonkers considering that the Ardbeg 10 that we looked at in August has 50-65ppm peat levels. For lovers of smoke and peat!

We're going to start with some classics. Oban and Dalwhinnie are 2 of 6 whiskys in the 'Classic Malts of Scotland' range. We will likely taste the other 4 over the coming months, serving as an introduction to the different Scotch distilling regions and providing a palate basis for future tastings.
